How trash pickup works in Chino Hills

Chino Hills residential collection runs on a weekly schedule through the city's franchise waste hauler. Every household gets three carts: a black cart for trash, a blue cart for mixed recyclables, and a green cart for organics and yard waste. What goes in each cart

Blue cart — recycling

Clean cardboard, paper, aluminum cans, steel cans, rigid plastic bottles and tubs (numbers 1, 2, and 5), and glass bottles. Rinse containers first — food-contaminated recycling gets landfilled at the sorting facility, which defeats the point. No plastic bags, no styrofoam, no tanglers like cords or garden hose.

Green cart — organics

California SB 1383 requires organics to be separated from trash. Your green cart takes yard trimmings (grass, leaves, branches under 4 feet long), food scraps (including meat and dairy under the current rules), and food-soiled paper like pizza boxes and paper napkins.

Black cart — trash

Everything else that isn't hazardous. Diapers, pet waste, non-recyclable packaging, broken glass, and small non-recyclable household items.
